We are currently in Paihia (Bay of Islands) where the sun is always shining. Paihia has been great because our first 5 days in NZ were not filled with much sun. We decided to take full advantage of the sun here in Paihia by going to the beach everyday for the majority of the day. Our beach days are filled with Frisbee, swimming, laying out, playing dice and card games and journaling. While all this was fun for the first few days, now we spending our time indoors for the day because we are lobster red. You name it and we have burnt it....lips, hips, scalp, feet, back, shoulders, chest, legs, knees...etc. Due to all of the sun and our burns we have already had to invest in more sunblock and aloe vera cream after less than a week in NZ. When I say invest in these things I really mean it. NZ is expensive. While grocery shopping the other day we found sunblock for $47. Can you believe that? We didnt' buy that one but did buy a $20 bottle that wasn't as big as you would imagine a $20 bottle of sunblock should be. Oh well...what can you do.
Tomorrow we will be taking a short ferry ride to Russell to spend another 3 nights in a hostel. You can see the island of Russell from Paihia. The Bay of Islands is beautiful and we are excited to be up here and enjoying the sun...or more like the sun enjoying us. Pictures will be posted later because we are a bit behind on actually taking pictures because we have been far to preoccupied with the sun.
